Hey <<First Name>>, What a difference a day and some journalism can make. We just published the breaking news that Pa. lawmakers will abandon an effort to further limit public access to their campaign expenses. This is why hard-hitting accountability journalism in Harrisburg matters so much. Support our newsroom and become a Founding Donor now. To recap, on Tuesday, our investigation with The Caucus revealed how lawmakers hide millions of dollars in sometimes lavish campaign expenses from public scrutiny. The only reason we now know about that spending is because a team of reporters spent a year using a little-known provision of the state law to demand more detailed spending records from campaigns. Then, Tuesday afternoon, the legislature doubled down, quietly tucking a new provision into an unrelated bill that would have reduced already meager oversight and made it more difficult to access those records. After we reported the attempt, House Republicans today said they would reverse course and remove the language from the bill. Will they try again down the road? Who knows. But with your help, we'll be watching. Readers like you make this work possible. Our state is better off with independent, non-partisan journalists watching our Capitol. Become a Founding Donor now and help our journalists keep digging. Best, Chris
