BALLOT DECISION: A federal court has directed Pennsylvania counties to accept mail ballots that a voter has failed to date or misdated. Votebeat and Spotlight PA report that the decision could affect thousands of ballots in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

FIVE TAKEAWAYS: A Spotlight PA investigation delved into how suspended DuBois City Manager Herm Suplizio ended up at the center of one of the most sweeping political corruption cases in recent years in Pennsylvania. Here are five takeaways from our story.

RECOUNT REQUEST: A group of Republican voters want recounts in three of the five Bucks County school board races Democrats won, claiming there was “error or fraud,” The Inquirer (paywall) reports. Fifteen petitions were filed but they do not specify what voters believe occurred. A Democratic elections lawyer called the requests a “waste of time.”

SEAT RESIGNATION: State Rep. John Galloway (D., Bucks) told Levittown Now he will resign on Dec. 15 after being elected to a be district judge. A special election will be held in early 2024 to determine who will represent the 140th Legislative District. Falls Township resident Donna Petrecco, a Democrat, announced on Nov. 15 that she will run for the seat.

RELIEF EFFORTS: Pennsylvania is expected to experience more severe storms and flooding from climate change, StateImpact reports, prompting the state’s American Red Cross chapter to train volunteers to help residents displaced by a disaster. Volunteers learn how to run temporary shelters and provide comfort for people processing their trauma from displacement. A disaster program manager said the changing environment means volunteers could be called up at any time.
